Welcome! Bienvenida. ??. ?????? ??Mount Vernon City Schools is committed to the success of all students through our TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Program. The program provides specialized instruction for students whose primary language is not English, helping them build the skills needed to succeed academically and socially.

TESOL services are led by Carla Furan, a dedicated educator with eight years of experience supporting elementary, middle, and high school English learners. Ms. Furan is passionate about creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment where students feel confident, valued, and empowered to grow.

Instruction is tailored to meet individual needs, whether students are beginning or intermediate English learners. Through differentiated strategies, interactive activities, visual supports, and real-world connections, students strengthen their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while also developing confidence and critical thinking abilities. Ms. Furan emphasizes strong relationships and culturally responsive practices, recognizing and celebrating the diverse backgrounds of the students she serves.
